Hi!
I am a grandma with 2 grand daughters - rhythmic gymnasts (5 and 8 yo).
I organized a small RG school and now renting a nonexpensive gym.
Now the problem is to find a cheap and light carpet which we would be able to scroll over and remove after training (currently we are using mats).
Please advise!!! We live in NJ, USA.

RG carpets are very, very expensive! In the US, I never saw a gym that didn't have an official carpet, but since moving overseas my mind has been broadened and I see that you can do a lot with a lot less money spent if you have to.

Home Depot and stores like that have huge carpet remnants in the back, they are usually cheap. You can cut them in strips around 4-5 feet wide, to make them easier to store and roll up. Juts put velcro on the sides (easy to do yourself) and when they are rolled out, you can velcro them together. They don't have to match colors, but the fiber length of all the carpet pieces should be all the same (ie no pieces with long shag or anything).

For padding, there is an industrial foam padding that they wrap pipes in that works great. It comes in rolls, just cut it and tape it together (duct tape works great!) and make a huge piece to go under the full carpet. The padding folds up much easier than a carpet, so you can make a huge piece but still get it small enough to store at the end of the day. Home Depot should also have that padding- it is silver and has a foam core.

It isn't pretty, but it works great and most importantly is affordable! Good luck!

I agree with gryro
Lots of schools in countries like Russia and Ukraine do not have official carpets and just make due with regular suitable carpets, and these schools produce some amazing gymnasts Smile
